Development of a Computational Method for the Prediction of Wave Induced Longitudinal Bending in Ships
نویسنده
چکیده
This thesis documents the development of a computational method for wave induced longitudinal bending in ships. First, there will be a discussion about the importance of longitudinal bending in ship design. The paper will then outline the basic physics at work in the system. It will review the wave forcing computation as well as the response of the vessel. It will then document the progression of the program, which was constructed in Fortran 90, as it solves the linear differential equation for the vessel bending caused by an incoming wave. The entire program then appears at the end of the paper. While the current program is not complete the theory behind it is valid and the code can be augmented to include non-linear components in the future.

Nowadays, application of high speed crafts with large tonnage is of our country's essences. In order to gain high speed, new multi hull crafts are traditional. A hull form having been used recently in frigates is the Trimaran. Trimaran hull form and motion have been extensively studied due to the development of numerical and analytical methods as well as the exploitation of experimental setup. ...

Nowadays, various numerical methods are developed to extend computational fluid dynamics in engineering applications. One of the most useful methods in free surface modeling is Boundary Element Method (BEM). BEM is used to model inviscid fluid flow such as flow around ships. BEM solutions employ surface mesh at all of the boundaries. In order to model the linear free surface, BEM can be modifie...

Generally, fatigue failure in an element happens at the notch on a surface where the stress level rises because of the stress concentration effect. The present paper investigates the effect of a notch on the fatigue life of the HSLA100 (high strength low alloy) steel which is widely applicable in the marine industry. Tensile test was conducted on specimens and mechanical properties were obtain...

The non-linearities in waveand slamming-induced rigid-body motions and structural responses of ships such as heave, pitch and vertical bending moments are consistently investigated based on a rational timedomain strip method (Xia, Wang and Jensen, 1998). A hydrodynamic model for predicting sectional green water force is also outlined for the investigation of the effect of green water loads on t...
متن کاملDevelopment of a Computer Model for the Prediction of Littoral Sediment Transport Rate
In this paper, longshore sediment transport in littoral zones is investigated. For investigation of sediment transport in the nearshore zone, the effects of waves, currents and topographical conditions of coast are considered. Linear wave theory was used for the investigation of the wave behaviour. Governing equations of littoral current are continuity and momentum ones. For calculating concent...
